Porphyrins and Phthalocyanines

Materials Research Group

Metallo-Por and -Pc structures can be used as efficient and selective catalysts and photocatalysts in many industrial and environmental processes, mainly when combined with solid matrixes.

The [5,10,15,20-tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)porphyrin] (H2P1) was the platform to prepare a tetrasubstituted galactodendritic conjugate porphyrin (H2P3) and after metalation with excess copper(II) ion afforded a new solid porphyrin material, Cu4CuP3S. This work also assessed the ability of the copper(II) to coordinate with zinc(II) acetate to yield the new material Zn4CuP3S. Oxidation of different substrates under heterogeneous conditions helped to evaluate the catalytic activity of Cu4CuP3S and Zn4CuP3S.

The reaction between (benzene-1,3,5-triyltris(methylene))triphosphonic acid (H6bmt) and lanthanide chlorides, under typical hydrothermal conditions (180 °C for 3 days) or using microwave heating (5 minutes above 150 °C), led to the isolation of an isotypical series of compounds formulated as [Ln2(H3bmt)2(H2O)2]·H2O [where Ln3+ = La3+ (1), Ce3+ (2), Pr3+ (3), Nd3+ (4), (La0.95Eu0.05)3+ (5) and (La0.95Tb0.05)3+ (6)].
