Andreia farinha...

...was born in Lisboa, Portugal in 1982. She received a degree in Chemistry in 2005 from the University of Lisbon, Faculty of Science (FCUL). During this time she performed a stage in Institut de Chimie Organique et Analytique (ICOA) under the supervision of Doctor Patrick Rollin and Doctor Amélia Pilar Rauter. She is finishing the PhD degree in Chemistry in University of Aveiro, supervised by Doctor Augusto Tomé in of Calixpyrroles- Synthesis and anion binding studies. Currently, her interests rest on Supramolecular chemistry. Andreia Farinha has authored or coauthored 10 research publications, 22 communications in congress.

Sergio Vilela

... born in 1983, got his first university degree in Chemistry at University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), Portugal, in 2007. Two years later, in 2009, he concluded his Masters in Laboratory Analysis, also at UTAD, in collaboration with the University of Aveiro. Currently, he is attending the PhD program in Chemistry under the supervision of Filipe Almeida Paz and João Tomé at the Center for Research in Ceramics and Composite Materials (CICECO). His scientific interests are focused at the design, synthesis and characterization of functional metal–organic frameworks.


Sandrina Silva

... has completed her PhD in 2009 at University of Orléans (France) and University of Lisbon (Portugal) about carbohydrate based 1,3-oxazoline-2-thiones as original antimicrobial and insecticidal devices. Then she moved to Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich (ETH) in Switzerland where she worked on the synthesis of paromomycin derived aminoglucosidases antibiotics. She join the University of Aveiro on 2010 and her recent activity concerns the synthesis of water soluble photosensitizers and their application in photodynamic therapy.

Bing Liu

... was born in Yiyang, Hunan, China in 1975. He was awarded his Ph. D from Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of matter, Chinese Academy of Science in 2005 (supervisor Professor Guo-Cong Guo). He worked in College of Science, Northeast Forestry University in China from 2006-2010. Currently, Bing Liu is a Post-doctor supervised by Dr. João Tomé and Dr. Filipe Paz, at University of Aveiro, and Dr. Luis Cunha at University of Porto. His research interest focuses on the design, crystal engineering and properties of MOFs concerning with 1,2,4-triazole. Bing Liu led/participated 7 research projects, and has authored or co-authored 56 research publications, and 8 poster communications.

Leandro Lourenço

... was born in Puerto Cabello, Venezuela, in 1984. He got his first university degree in Industrial Chemistry at Faculty of Sciences and Technology of University of Coimbra (FCTUC), Coimbra, in 2007. One year later he concluded his Masters in Chemistry at University of Coimbra, supervised by Prof. Rocha Gonsalves. He is interested in the synthesis of porphyrins, phthalocyanines and their dyads to functionalize supramolecularly with graphene, carbon nanotubes or fullerenes. The novel exciting nanomaterials can be used in a wide range of applications due to their unique physical, chemical, thermal, and mechanical properties.

…was born in 1988 in Biala Podlaska, Poland. Completed her Master degree in pharmacy at Medical University of Warsaw in cooperation with Department of Immunology in 2013, where she stayed focused on immunological enhancement of effectiveness of photodynamic therapy. Currently attending PhD program under direct supervision of João Tomé (UA). She is working with synthesis, characterization and biological application of third generation photosensitizers.

Dora Costa

... was born in Vila Nova de Famalicão in 1987. In 2009, she completed her first degree in Biochemistry and began a master degree in Organic Chemistry and Natural Products, both at University of Aveiro. She finished her master supervised by Dr. João Tomé and Professor José Cavaleiro. She is interested in porphyrins and chlorins synthesis and their biological applications. Currently she is a research fellow at Coimbra University.

Deisy  Rocha...

... was born in São Vicente, Cabo Verde, in 1991. In 2013, she complete first degree in  Biotechnology in University of Aveiro.  Currently getting master degree in Industrial and Environmental Biotechnology, being the master theses a collaboration between  Dr. João Tomé and Dr. Angela Cunha. The scientific interest is in synthesis and photophic-studies  of phthalocyanines derivatives for application in microbial photoinactivation.

Joana Brás Pereira

... was born in 1982 in Vizela, Portugal. She obtained a degree in Clinical Analysis and Public Health from College of Health Technology of Coimbra (ESTeSC). Following graduation, she works as a biomedical scientist at Portuguese Institute of Blood from 2004 until present time. Master’s degree in Molecular and Cell Biology was accomplished form University of Aveiro, in 2011 (supervisor Dr. João Tomé). Joana’s interests are photodynamic therapy for microorganisms inactivation and molecular biology. She has authored or co-authored 1 research publication and 8 poster communications. Currently she is working at IPO in Porto.

Stephanie Ló graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from the University Federal of Parana (Brazil), where she also received her Master’s degree in 2011 on which she specialized on porphyrin chemistry working under the supervision of Profs. Alan Gonçalves and Sandra Barreira. Currently, she’s a PhD student at the University Federal of Parana where her thesis is focused on the synthesis of porphyrins and their biological application. A portion of her research is being executed at the University of Aveiro (Portugal), where she’s being supervised by Dr. João Tomé.
